Frequently Asked Questions( FAQ )

1. What makes Yixing Zisha clay special?

Yixing Zisha clay is a natural mineral clay found only in Yixing, China. Its unique porous structure allows the teapot to gradually absorb tea oils over time, enhancing aroma and creating a richer tea experience with continued use. Every authentic Yixing teapot also develops a beautiful natural patina through regular brewing.

2. Is every teapot unique?

Yes.

Each Bonony teapot is handmade by experienced Yixing artisans. Because every piece is crafted by hand, slight variations in shape, texture, clay color, or lid fit are normal and make each teapot one of a kind.

3. What's the difference between Fully Handmade and Semi-Handmade?

A Fully Handmade teapot is formed entirely by hand using traditional slab-building techniques.

A Semi-Handmade teapot uses handmade craftsmanship together with molds to assist shaping. This improves consistency while preserving the performance and characteristics of authentic Yixing Zisha clay.

Both are genuine Yixing teapots made by skilled artisans.

4. How do I choose the right teapot size?

Choosing the right size depends on how you enjoy tea.

• Under 150ml – Ideal for solo tea sessions and concentrated brews.

• 150–199ml – A versatile size for one to two people.

• 200–299ml – Perfect for sharing tea with family or friends.

• 300ml+ – Best for larger gatherings or those who enjoy generous servings.

5. What tea is suitable for a Yixing teapot?

Yixing teapots are best suited for loose-leaf tea.

Popular choices include:

  • Oolong Tea
  • Pu-erh Tea
  • Black Tea
  • White Tea
  • Dark Tea

Many tea lovers dedicate one teapot to one type of tea to preserve the purest flavor over time.

6. Can I use soap to clean my teapot?

No.

Simply rinse the teapot with warm water after each use and allow it to air dry completely. Soap or detergent may be absorbed by the porous clay and affect the taste of future brews.

7. How do I season a new Yixing teapot?

Before first use:

  1. Rinse the teapot with warm water.
  2. Brew your preferred tea inside.
  3. Let it soak for several minutes.
  4. Pour away the tea and repeat once or twice.

The teapot is then ready for regular use and will naturally improve with time.

8. Does my teapot come with a certificate?

Some artisan teapots include a certificate of authenticity, while others may not.

Please refer to the individual product description for details. If you have any questions before purchasing, feel free to contact us.

9. Can I request engraving or custom artwork?

Some teapots support custom engraving or artwork, while others do not.

If customization is available, it will be clearly stated on the product page. Please contact us before ordering to discuss your request.

10. Do you ship internationally?

Yes.

We ship worldwide from Australia, and every order is carefully packed to ensure your teapot arrives safely.

11. Can I receive a making video of my teapot?

For selected custom teapots, we offer an optional short making-process video.

These are authentic clips recorded by the artisan during production, offering a meaningful glimpse into the creation of your teapot.

If you choose this option, please provide your email address so we can send the video after production.

Because the footage is recorded during the actual making process, we cannot accept requests for retakes, additional filming, or editing once the teapot has been completed.

12. Is this a genuine Yixing teapot?

Yes.

Every Bonony teapot is handcrafted in Yixing, China—the birthplace of authentic Zisha pottery. We work directly with experienced artisans and clearly identify the maker, clay material, craftsmanship, and other details on each product page whenever available.
