About Zisha Clay

Zisha, also known as “purple clay,” is a unique natural mineral clay sourced exclusively from Yixing, Jiangsu Province, China — a region world-renowned for its centuries-old teapot craftsmanship.

Unlike ordinary ceramics, authentic Zisha clay is highly breathable and porous, allowing the teapot to absorb the aroma and character of tea over time. This natural interaction enhances the depth, smoothness, and complexity of each brew.

The beauty of Zisha lies not only in its appearance but in its living quality. With every use, the teapot gradually develops a richer patina, becoming more personal and refined.

There are several main types of Zisha clay:

• Zi Ni (Purple Clay) – balanced, versatile, ideal for most teas
• Zhu Ni (Red Clay) – dense, smooth, excellent for aromatic teas
• Duan Ni (Yellow Clay) – softer texture, suitable for lighter teas

Each clay type carries its own character, influencing heat retention, tea flavor, and brewing experience.

At Bonony, we carefully select authentic Yixing teapots crafted by skilled artisans, preserving both the tradition and soul of Chinese tea culture.
